Hubby, a man who has all these cute little hobbies and addictions, loves to watch a show called Doomsday Preppers. That´s basically a bunch of people preparing themselves for the world war III or something, I haven´t actually watched it. Really, I haven´t. Unfortunately we have a TV in every room, so...And oh btw hubby is obviously prepping for a zombie apocalypse. ´Cause Finland would SO be the land where something like that would happen. Better be prepared. You know I´m joking, right?
The minute I started growing veggies and bought my dehydrator home, Hubby was incredibly pleased to have his very own Prepper! Of course, I died a little inside.
But behold, a Prepper I am! At least in a way. I learned that, imagine this, preparing food ahead I actually have something healthy to eat when I´m hungry! Gasp!
So how do I food prep?
- Overnight oats - oats/buckwheat, chiaseeds, berries, fruits, nut milks, quark, if you eat dairy, maca powder...just combining everything I have in my fridge at the moment! I usually put like a 3/4 cup of oats, 1 tbs of chia and then the liquids, let it soak for a few minutes and then adding fruits and berries on top. So easy and then you have a healthy, ready-to-go brekkie for you.
- Smoothies- need I say more? Lasts for a couple of days in your fridge. Or you can be super prepper and make lots ahead and freeze it! Ooh that reminds me I gotta try greenpopsicles...
I will post the recipe for my favorite green smoothie later!
- Preparing lunchboxes. That way I don´t have to improvise at the market during my luch hour and buy a typical snackbar and an avocado. No joke. Quinoa, sweet potato, GF pasta, hummus, veggieburgers, falafel, yesterdays leftovers, a soup...Go and check Deliciously Ella´s beautiful Rainbow Plate -ideas and you´ll get the point.
- Dehydrated snacks, like crackers, sliced apples, kale etc. They´ll last for ages and are super high on nutrients.
But do tell me, how do you food prep and why? :)
